The Temple Theatre Conservatory is officially underway!  We welcomed students this past spring and produced a highly successful summer conservatory production of Honk! Jr.

Cassandra and I would like to congratulate all those who where part of the 35 member cast.  Your dedication and talent made for a great show!  It's amazing what you can accomplish in 3 short weeks.   And a very special thanks to those parents who where invaluable members of the backstage crew, ushers, costume assistants, etc.  Without your help Honk! Jr. would not have been possible.

As we continue to grow, we will be offering more opportunities for young people to become involved with the theatre; the first major step of which began with our first class session in April of 2006 and will continue into the fall of 2006 with more classes and our first Apprentice class.

Classes for middle school students will begin August 15 and continue for five weeks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school at 4pm until 5:30pm.  Class will be taught by Temple's Director of Education, Tom DaltonThe classroom is the best environment to explore and develop your talent.  It is also a great place to meet and work with new people while having a great time.

If you are a high school student interested in theatre, this fall is great time to become involved with one of North Carolina's premiere theatres.  We will be taking applications for our Apprentice Company through September 30 .  We will also have our fall acting class for high school students starting October 23.  Classes will meet Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00pm - 5:30pm for five weeks.

The apprentice program is designed for those high school students who have a serious interest in theatre and wish to learn what goes into producing professional productions.  Anyone interested in becoming an apprentice must  fill out an application and submit it by the end of September.  You will then be scheduled for an interview with members of the theatre's staff.  If accepted into the Apprentice Program, you will have the opportunity to be a part of our productions as well as attend special "apprentice only" master classes taught by members of the Temple staff and visiting guest artists.

Remember, theatre is an art!  And like any art, the more you practice and learn, the better you become.  This is an exciting time at Temple Theatre and we would love for you to be a part of it.

Since its re-opening in 1983, Temple Theatre has been known as a theatre housed in one building downtown.  In the spring of 2006, Temple Theatre expanded with the completion of its new education wing located next door to the theatre at 124 Carthage St.  There you will find offices, a large classroom space and a library with hundreds of scripts and other theatre related material.

In the next 2 months we plan to renovate the room across the hall from the completed classroom giving the theatre 2 classroom spaces that can also be used for rehearsals.  In the past Temple Theatre has focused on producing 8 professional productions a year with one summer youth production.  There have been a large number of people wondering why the theatre hasn't offered more year-round programs for youth and adults.  The truth is that we have always wanted to do more with community, but with a production schedule that leaves the theatre dark for an average of one week between performances, it was never feasible.  This new space gives us the opportunity to expand beyond our production schedule and, in turn, expand the opportunities for the community to get involved with its largest year round tourist attraction, Temple Theatre.  So come by 124 Carthage St. between the hours of 10am and 5pm.  Someone will be glad to show you around our new space!
